Countering Knockdown attacks as a Monk
I have been working on learning to use a monk in PvP recently. I use weapon swaping and have been trying to get better at kiting. The one large problem I seam to have is with knock down melee characters. Hammer Warriors in particular.
Is there any tactic I can use to mitigate this other than shield bash and run? Shield bash and run works once but as soon as I stop to heal a teammate or myself I am knocked down and its all over. Or is this a case of my team mates not surpressing the warrior good enough? After all I have only been playing in RA while I am learning.

Generally I'll go Mo/W with Shield Bash and either Disciplined Stance or Balanced Stance.
The other people in RA are probably going for the other team's squishies and/or healers, so they tend to ignore warriors, which is why you're getting knocked down so much. If there's a warrior on your ass, I usually call it out and maybe you'll actually have a decent teammate with blind or a snare.

Guardian and well placed shield bashes should be good enough to be honest, unless there's also a dom mes or a ranger and another warrior or something. Guardian means he builds adren much slower and doesn't really know if his kd is going to land or not. It's really frustrating as a warrior, let me tell you, to play against a monk who preguardians when he sees a warrior running towards him and keeps it 24/7 chained.
Try learning to count the number of adren strikes the warrior builds up on you and using your shield bash accordingly to take out dev hammer or mage hunters or whatever kd he's using. Not only do you not get kded, but he gets that skill disabled and cant build it for a while.

You can also use supportive spirit if you want to put all your points in healing and favor. It reduces damage enough to survive a knockdown now and then.

Guardian is a must skill on your bar, also (as Floski said a well timed Shield Bash will help a lot). I carry Disciplined Stance in RA/TA, if you do get knocked down its a life saver, just put it up. Having one of your teammates lineback or snare the warrior is ideal but since most people in RA are /phail don't expect any sort of help. Do expect "wtf phail monk n00b dunt hael me.. go back to pve scrub" however, apparently some people think a monk can stand up to a good warrior + domi mesmer and keep them condi/hex free at the same time.
GL, and remember, Guardian is awesome

If you want to run something other the Mo/W I run Mo/A.......I use guardian chian but instead of shield bash I use Return. This will work even if you get KD'd. It will teleport you to the selected ally and cripple any near by enemy for a length of time.
I like to let the mele run to me and instantly cast Return this will cripple them alowing me to kite freely and healy my party. It will teleport you to the selected Ally moving you away from them
All the while keeping Guardian chain up as much as possable.......

Don't keep guardian on yourself 24/7. Use it when there's physical damage on you, or coming towards you. You're wasting energy if the warrior's on a different target and you're guardian-ing yourself.

Return does not work while you are KD'd. If you teleport after a warrior knocks you, either the warrior is bad at quarterknocking or you hit return too late.

if you fire off return in the middle of the warrior's KD animation, you'll teleport but get KD'd anyways. in GW, if a skill is activated, it will fully activate even if the target teleports to the other side of the map.

If you see a warrior using Bull's Strike, hit your cancel action key or start casting something.

to add to that watch a warrior following you for the bulls and as soon as bulls start "ESC". same thing with Shield Bash. the more you play the more you will be able to recognize attack chains from warriors and sins. learn which skills are best to bash (getting crushing blow takes out almost half a hammer war's damage, while if KD's are the issues removing one KD can releive that pressure). use your eyes. watch the guild warsing not the red bars.
same thing vs ranger's DShot/Magebane if its causing an issue. use ur eyes
paying attention to the game (counting recharges, counting adrenaline, watching positioning) will give you the upper hand.

If you're the prot monk: Hope your Me/E doesn't suck, and try not to eat obvious Bull's Strikes.
